Course Description
This is an international diving course for those who are seriously interested in learning how to dive. Upon completion, you will receive a C CARD, which allows you to rent diving equipment, book diving trips, and continue your education with dive shops worldwide. You will also be able to dive with a buddy at a maximum depth of 18 meters.
Course Structure
The course can be divided into three parts:
Theory: approximately 10 hours
Practical training in a pool: approximately 10 hours
Total duration of the course: approximately 20 hours
Practical Training in the Sea
During the practical training in the sea, there will be a total of 4 dives conducted over 2 days at the Samaesarn Islands, etc.
Theoretical Component is divided into 5 chapters, focusing on the fundamental principles of SCUBA diving (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) in the following topics:
All types of diving equipment, their usage, selection, and maintenance.
Basic physics: air pressure, buoyancy, light, color, sound, etc.
Underwater communication and planning dives with a buddy.
Undersea environment, marine life, precautions, conservation of the underwater environment, and emergency prevention and response.
Diving-related illnesses and the use of the Dive Table.
Theoretical Examination: Regardless of the method of theoretical learning, after completing all 5 chapters, there will be a written exam consisting of 50 questions.
Passing Criteria: A minimum of 75% correct answers is required from the 50 questions. The instructor will review all questions that students answered incorrectly to ensure 100% understanding.
Practical Training in Confined Water Confined water refers to a body of water that is bounded, such as a swimming pool or a small bay/beach with still water, where there is no current. An environment similar to a swimming pool is also considered confined water. At our facility, we will use a swimming pool as Confined Water. This part of the training is divided into 5 sections, and there will be a swimming and floating ability test before the lessons, which includes:
Swimming 200 meters without equipment, or an alternative option is to swim 300 meters using a mask, fins, and a snorkel.
Floating on the surface without equipment for 10 minutes.
The purpose of having students test their swimming and floating abilities is not to assess their physical endurance but to allow instructors to evaluate how comfortable students are when they are in the water.
Training for Basic SCUBA skills in the swimming pool includes the following:
Practicing assembling and disassembling equipment.
Entering the water in different scenarios.
Checking one's own equipment and that of the dive buddy before entering the water.
Breathing underwater and using fins properly.
Adjusting buoyancy, and responding to emergency situations underwater in various scenarios.
Skin Diving.
Confined Water Testing: The instructor will demonstrate each diving skill to the students step by step and have the students practice accordingly. If the practice is not performed correctly, the instructor will correct the mistakes and have the students repeat the skill until they can perform it correctly. The concept of this training is performance-based, not time-based.
Passing Criteria: Students must practice every skill until they are proficient, at which point the instructor will consider them ready to pass the confined water training and proceed to practice in the open water. If they are not yet proficient, they will not be allowed to practice in the open water.
Practical Training in Open Water will be divided into 4 dives over 2 days. This Open Water practical training is designed to take the skills that have been practiced and mastered in confined water and apply them in real seawater conditions. It will involve a review of the skills learned and their application during actual dives to create familiarity with the Open Water environment. The term Open Water refers to bodies of water that are expansive and have no boundaries, such as seas, large bays, and lakes that share these characteristics are collectively referred to as Open Water.
Skills that will be reviewed during this sea training will not cover all skills practiced in confined water, but will primarily focus on the following skills:
Checking the equipment of the dive buddy
Conducting a buoyancy weight check
Planning the dive
Entering and exiting the water
Diving down and ascending
Equalizing the air spaces in the body
Breathing underwater
Adjusting buoyancy
Practicing emergency response
Diving and adapting to the underwater environment
Conducting actual dives in open water
Open Water Assessment: There will be no formal testing; the instructor will simply brief the students on which skills will be reviewed during each dive. After reviewing the skills during each session, there will be actual recreational diving where students will apply the skills they have practiced well in confined water during real dives in Open Water.
Passing Criteria: Students must successfully review all skills according to the established standards.
