Another course for professionals who want to develop their skills to the fullest is the Instructor Development Course (IDC).

What is the IDC course?
IDC stands for Instructor Development Course, which is part of the PADI system. This course is designed to develop learners into competent scuba diving instructors.
What does the course focus on?
The IDC emphasizes developing knowledge, teaching skills, and instilling the right attitude about understanding PADI’s standards and teaching requirements. The main goal is to train instructors who can teach safely, professionally, and to PADI standards, enabling them to build a career in diving instruction.
Who can teach this course?
Only a PADI Course Director (CD) can teach the IDC. Learners must register with a CD. After completing the course, the CD will notify PADI headquarters that the candidate is ready to take the Instructor Examination (IE).

Who can take the IE?
There is no strict limitation on who can take the IE, but candidates should be passionate about diving and committed to developing their diving and teaching skills to become instructors. Being an instructor means teaching others to dive as well as you can.
Basic requirements to enroll as an instructor:
Completed Divemaster certification
At least 18 years old
Certified diver for at least six months
Logged at least 100 dives
Completed Rescue Diver course
The most important qualification is the determination to become a dive instructor. If you have this, you can definitely enroll.
Can non-PADI certified divers take the IDC?
Yes. If you are certified as a Divemaster or equivalent by another agency, or already an instructor, you can enroll in the PADI IDC.
How long does the course take?
It depends on the learner’s schedule. Typically, the course lasts about 10-12 days. Those with continuous availability can complete it in one go, studying from morning to evening. If you cannot study continuously, you can discuss flexible options with the course provider.
